Qiam 1

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The Qiam-1, whose name means Uprising-1, is a liquid-fueled, single-stage short-range ballistic missile developed and deployed by Iran. It is an indigenous variant of the Shahab-2, itself a derivative of the Soviet Scud-C. Unlike Iran's other Scud-derived missiles it has no external tail fins and stabilizes itself with a thrust vector control system, and it carries a separating triconic warhead with ground-based radio guidance, which improves accuracy over earlier Scud-based designs. It is about 11.5 meters long, weighs roughly 6,155 kilograms at launch and is reported to deliver a 750 kilogram payload to between 700 and 800 kilometers. Unveiled in 2010 and first flight-tested that August, it entered service in 2017. Iran fired Qiam missiles in combat in Syria in 2017 and 2018 and against bases in Iraq in January 2020, and transferred the design to Yemen's Houthi forces, who used it as the Burkan-2H against targets in Saudi Arabia.
