Colt M1861 Navy

Small Arms And Sidearms

The Colt Model 1861 Navy is a six-shot, single-action percussion revolver of .36 caliber of the cap and ball type, and produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company from 1861 until 1873. It combines the creeping or ratchet loading lever and round barrel of the .44-caliber Army Model of 1860 with a barrel half an inch shorter, at 7.5 inches. Total production was about 38,000 revolvers. The infobox credits Samuel Colt as designer and gives a muzzle velocity of roughly 850 to 1,000 feet per second depending on the load. The page names no wars or operators for this model, so none are recorded here.
