The Colt Advanced Piston Carbine, or Colt APC, is a lightweight, modular, piston-operated 5.56mm carbine built by Colt's Manufacturing Company, capable of both semi-automatic and automatic fire and fitted with an articulating-link piston meant to reduce operating stress compared with a conventional piston system. Colt entered it, under the name Enhanced M4, into the United States Army's Individual Carbine competition in 2012 as a prospective replacement for the M4 carbine, but the Army cancelled the competition in 2013 before any weapon was selected.
