M1 carbine

The M1 carbine is a lightweight semi-automatic rifle chambered in .30 carbine ammunition, developed in the United States by Fred Humeston, William C. Roemer and David Marshall Williams as a compact weapon for support troops rather than frontline riflemen. The United States adopted it in 1941 and introduced it to service in 1942, and its makers eventually produced more than 6.1 million examples during World War II, making it one of the most widely manufactured small arms of the war. Beyond World War II it stayed in frontline and reserve use for decades, seeing combat in the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Hukbalahap Rebellion, the First Indochina War, the Algerian War, the Suez Crisis, the Cuban Revolution and the Syrian Civil War.
