The KGP-9 is a Hungarian submachine gun made by Fegyver- es Gepgyar (FEG) for Hungary's military forces and prison guards. Development began in 1986 when Hungarian military leadership sought a 9mm Parabellum alternative to the country's existing 9x18mm Makarov caliber sidearms, and after development running from 1986 to 1997 the weapon entered service around 2000, with roughly 1,000 military examples adopted alongside further use by the Hungarian prison service.
