Submachine Guns

This group collects the Small Arms And Sidearms subcategory's submachine guns: compact, magazine-fed automatic or selective-fire weapons chambered for pistol-caliber ammunition, designed for close-quarters and personal-defense use rather than rifle-range engagement. It spans blowback and roller-delayed designs and weapons fielded from the early twentieth century through the present day by military, police and security forces worldwide, including one hybrid entry classified here by its own weapon-class attestation as a submachine gun despite also carrying assault-rifle lineage. Purpose-built personal defense weapons firing a dedicated intermediate cartridge rather than a standard pistol round are grouped separately under Other Small Arms and Personal Weapons, since their ammunition and stated role differ from the classic submachine gun even though the two categories overlap in size and use.
