Mauser Model 1889

The Mauser Model 1889 is a bolt-action rifle designed by Paul Mauser's team and introduced in 1889, manufactured by Fabrique Nationale in Belgium as well as by Loewe Berlin and Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken in the German Empire. It was among the first rifles to use a single-stack detachable box magazine, which could be loaded round by round or with stripper clips, and it fired a 7.65x53mm smokeless powder cartridge through a cock-on-closing bolt action that allowed a faster rate of fire than earlier designs. A thin sheet-steel jacket surrounded the barrel to protect it and extend its service life, though the feature proved prone to rust and denting. About 1,295 millimeters long with a 780 millimeter barrel and weighing around 4 kilograms, the Model 1889 was widely adopted internationally, spawning variants such as the Turkish Model 1890 and the Argentine Model 1891, with roughly 275,000 rifles produced across all variants.
