Type 58 assault rifle

The Type 58 is a North Korean assault rifle derived from the Soviet AK-47 designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov, and was the first weapon manufactured in North Korea, with production beginning in 1958 at Factories 61 and 65 in Chongjin. About 800,000 units were built between 1958 and 1968, initially assembled from Soviet-supplied components before North Korea developed its own manufacturing capacity, after which production shifted to the follow-on Type 68. It is a gas-operated rifle capable of semi-automatic and fully automatic fire, chambered for the standard 7.62x39mm Kalashnikov-pattern cartridge.
