The Colt Defender Mark I was an American multi-barreled shotgun intended for law enforcement or military use, completed in 1967 by designer Robert Hillberg. It functioned as a volley gun with eight single-shot barrels arranged octagonally, each chambered for 20-gauge 3-inch magnum shells, fired sequentially by a revolver-style rotating striker without the mechanical complexity of a true semi-automatic action. Although Colt Industries showed interest and law enforcement agencies praised its compactness and firepower, an economic recession prevented adoption and the project ended by 1971.
