The Chimu-Inca War was the campaign of conquest the Inca emperor Topa Inca Yupanqui waged in the 1470s against the kingdom of Chimor, a rival state that had itself built the largest pre-Inca empire on the Pacific coast of South America under its ruler Minchancaman. Inca forces defeated Minchancaman and his armies, and the fighting was essentially complete by the time Topa Inca Yupanqui's son Huayna Capac assumed the Inca throne in 1493. Following his defeat, Minchancaman was removed from his coastal capital and relocated to the Inca capital of Cusco, and much of Chimor's wealth and skilled artisans were redirected there as well. The conquest of Chimor was the single largest territorial and political absorption the expanding Inca state carried out, bringing the whole of the Peruvian north coast and its sophisticated irrigation-based agriculture under Inca rule.
