The Italo-Turkish War, also called the Turco-Italian War, was fought between the Kingdom of Italy and the Ottoman Empire from 29 September 1911 to 18 October 1912. Italy captured the coastal areas of Ottoman Tripolitania, including Tripoli, Cyrenaica and Fezzan, which became Italian colonies and later merged into Italian Libya, and its forces also occupied the Dodecanese islands in the Aegean. The Treaty of Ouchy of 1912 ended the war, with Italy agreeing to return the Dodecanese, though the islands stayed under provisional Italian administration. The war is seen as a precursor of the First World War, since the Balkan League attacked the Ottomans just before it ended. It was also notable for new technology: the first aerial reconnaissance mission and the first aerial bomb were flown by Italian pilots, and wireless telegraphy was used in the field.
