The Jugurthine War (111-105 BC) was an armed conflict between the Roman Republic and King Jugurtha of Numidia, a kingdom on the north African coast roughly corresponding to modern-day Algeria. Jugurtha, nephew and adopted son of King Micipsa, had seized the Numidian throne through assassination, war and bribery, and the war he provoked with Rome ended in Roman victory, with Mauretania receiving part of Numidia's territory.
