The Muslim conquest of Egypt was fought between December 639 and September 642, when forces of the Rashidun Caliphate under Amr ibn al-As conquered Byzantine Egypt from the Byzantine Empire. The conquest ended the Roman period in Egypt, which had begun in 30 BC and lasted nearly seven centuries, and Egypt, along with Cyrenaica and Tripolitania, was annexed to the Rashidun Caliphate.
