Third Anglo-Afghan War

The Third Anglo-Afghan War was a brief conflict fought in 1919, begun when the new Afghan emir Amanullah Khan invaded British India in an effort to assert full Afghan independence over foreign affairs following the death of his father. After several weeks of limited but sharp fighting along the frontier, the war ended with the Treaty of Rawalpindi in August 1919, by which Britain recognized full Afghan independence in the conduct of its own foreign relations, bringing to a close nearly a century of British control over Afghan foreign policy that had begun with the earlier Anglo-Afghan wars.
