1PN58

Protective And Support Equipment

The 1PN58 is a Soviet passive night scope, also called the NSPUM or NSPU-1, made for a range of Soviet small arms and grenade launchers. The name is its GRAU index, where PN stands for Nochnoy Pritsel, meaning night sight. It was introduced into Soviet service in the early 1970s and is still used by many Soviet successor states. The scope magnifies 3.5 times, with a reticle marked for targets from 0.3 to 2.7 metres tall at ranges from 100 to 970 metres, and it is powered by a pack of five rechargeable cells. A circular dark glass aperture in its cover lets it be used in light that would saturate the image intensifier. It mounts on the side dovetail used by the SVD Dragunov and fits weapons such as the AK-74N, AKMN, PKMN, RPK-74N and RPG-7N, and it was issued to every Soviet motor-rifle platoon.
