The 2S9 Nona, whose name stands for Newest Ordnance of Ground Artillery in Russian, is a Soviet self-propelled and air-droppable 120 mm mortar built by Motovilikha Plants on an aluminum-hulled BTR-D airborne chassis. It entered service in 1981, carries a crew of four, weighs 8.7 tonnes, and reaches 8.8 kilometers with conventional rounds or 12.8 kilometers with extended-range ammunition; it remains in service with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Syria.
