The .44 Remington Magnum, commonly called the .44 Magnum, is a rimmed, large-bore cartridge originally designed for revolvers and later adopted for carbines and rifles as well. Despite the .44 designation, firearms chambered for the .44 Magnum, its parent .44 Special case, and the .44 Special's own parent .44 Russian case all use bullets of 0.429 inches, or 10.9mm, in diameter. The .44 Magnum is built on the .44 Special case, lengthened and loaded to higher pressures to achieve greater velocity and energy.
