The 9x19mm Parabellum, also called 9mm Luger or simply 9mm, is a rimless, centerfire, tapered firearms cartridge originally designed by the Austrian firearm designer Georg Luger in 1901 for his semi-automatic pistol. It is widely considered the most popular handgun and submachine gun cartridge in the world because of its low cost, adequate stopping power, and wide availability, and a 2007 United States survey found that about sixty percent of firearms then in police use were chambered for it.
