IWI Negev

Machine Guns And Automatic Weapons

The IWI Negev is a light machine gun developed by Israel Weapon Industries, formerly Israel Military Industries, beginning in 1985 and entering service with the Israel Defense Forces in 1997 as a replacement for the Galil ARM. It is gas operated with a rotating bolt and is chambered primarily in 5.56 by 45 millimeter NATO. In 2012 Israel Weapon Industries introduced the Negev NG-7 variant chambered in 7.62 by 51 millimeter NATO. Both versions remain in active Israeli service and the weapon has been adopted by more than twenty countries, including India, which ordered over 16,000 of the guns in 2020. FAQs

Can the IWI Negev feed from rifle magazines as well as belts?

Yes, it accepts belts, a fabric container, Galil magazines and, with an adapter, M16-type magazines.

Yes. The standard feed is a 200-round metal-link belt, and the gun can also fire from a 150-round fabric container that clips into the magazine well. It will take a 35-round box magazine from the Galil assault rifle it replaced, and with an adapter a standard 30-round STANAG magazine of the kind used by the M16 rifle. A 12-round blank cartridge magazine is used when launching rifle grenades.
