The IWI Negev is a light machine gun developed by Israel Weapon Industries, formerly Israel Military Industries, beginning in 1985 and entering service with the Israel Defense Forces in 1997 as a replacement for the Galil ARM. It is gas operated with a rotating bolt and is chambered primarily in 5.56 by 45 millimeter NATO. In 2012 Israel Weapon Industries introduced the Negev NG-7 variant chambered in 7.62 by 51 millimeter NATO. Both versions remain in active Israeli service and the weapon has been adopted by more than twenty countries, including India, which ordered over 16,000 of the guns in 2020.
