BrahMos-II is a hypersonic cruise missile under joint development by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia, intended as a successor to the original BrahMos. Powered by a scramjet engine, it is designed for launch from air, ship, submarine and land platforms against ship and land targets, with a planned range around 1,500 kilometers and a top speed near Mach 8. Testing has slipped from an original 2020 target, with the system now expected to be ready around 2026 or 2027.
