A cartridge trap is a simple booby trap built from a length of bamboo pipe, a piece of wood, a nail, and a live small arms cartridge, arranged so that pressure or movement drives the nail into the primer of the cartridge and fires it into anyone who triggers the device. It is described in military handbooks alongside other improvised guerrilla traps such as the punji stick, in the context of jungle warfare tactics like those used during the Vietnam War, though little else about its origins or effectiveness is documented in available sources.
