Colt Automatic Rifle

The Colt Automatic Rifle is a 5.56mm NATO open bolt squad automatic weapon developed jointly by Colt Defense and the Canadian firm Diemaco from a modified M16A1 during the 1980s, derived from the M16A2 and M16A4 platform. It has a squared off handguard, a vertical grip, a carrying handle and an integrated bipod, along with a heavy barrel and an enlarged gas tube meant to improve sustained automatic fire. The weapon entered service in 1994 and has since been adopted by several nations, including Denmark, the Netherlands and Brazil, for both military and law enforcement use.
