The Colt King Cobra is a medium-frame, double-action revolver with a six-round cylinder, designed and produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company and marketed to law enforcement agencies and to civilian shooters. Introduced in 1986, it is chambered for the centerfire .357 Magnum cartridge and, like other .357 revolvers, will also fire the shorter .38 Special. Although it looks much like the Colt Python, its design descends from the earlier Colt Trooper Mark V, with a heavier barrel, a shroud protecting the full-length ejector rod and a thicker solid rib on top. It was offered in blued and stainless finishes and in barrel lengths from two to eight inches. Production stopped in 1992, resumed in 1994, ended again in 1998 and returned in 2019 as a three-inch .357 Magnum, with a ten-shot .22 LR version added in 2022. Colt made only six three-inch samples for the Montreal Police Department, and that model was never adopted.
