Demolition Belt

A demolition belt is a defended land area sown with explosive charges, mines, and other obstacles to deny its use to an enemy and to protect friendly troops, built by military engineers as part of a defensive line. A primary demolition belt is a continuous barrier spanning an entire front, ordered by a division-level or higher command and given priority by engineering units, while a subsidiary demolition belt adds further depth in front of or behind the primary belt or protects a flank against outflanking movement. As an area-denial measure the demolition belt is a standing part of force-protection doctrine, creating a hazardous zone that slows or stops an enemy advance while shielding the defenders behind it.
