The FN SLP, whose letters stand for Self-Loading Police, is a Belgian 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun made by FN Herstal for the law enforcement market. It was introduced in 2008 and is offered in a Standard form and in SLP Mark I, SLP Tactical and SLP Mark I Tactical versions. Its gas-operated self-loading action is built on the foundation of the Browning Auto-5 of 1902, and it feeds from a tube magazine under the barrel whose capacity runs from five to eight rounds depending on the model. The grip is molded into a non-adjustable synthetic stock with a perforated recoil pad, the receiver carries a short Picatinny rail, and sighting is by an adjustable tritium ghost ring rear sight with a front sight. The standard model weighs about 7.5 pounds, overall length is between 39 and 43 inches and barrels range from 18 to 22 inches. Military Factory describes it as a reliable shotgun, aimed at police users rather than at front line armies.
