Harpoon Anti-Ship Missile

The Harpoon is an American all-weather, over-the-horizon anti-ship missile developed by McDonnell Douglas, now part of Boeing, first delivered to the United States Navy in 1977 and remaining in front-line service. Guided to its target by active radar homing after flying most of its course low over the sea to avoid detection, the missile carries a roughly 220-kilogram warhead and can be launched from surface ships, submarines, aircraft and coastal defense batteries under variant designations including RGM-84, UGM-84 and AGM-84. Around 7,500 Harpoons have been built for the United States and more than two dozen allied navies and air forces, and the missile has seen combat use including during the Iran-Iraq War and, in Ukrainian service, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
