The Heckler and Koch P11 is an underwater firearm developed in 1976 for naval commando operations, entering service the following year. It uses a pepper box configuration of five sealed barrels firing electrically ignited projectiles, either 7.62 by 36 millimeter flechette darts for use underwater or standard bullets when fired above water, addressing the problem that ordinary shaped rounds are inaccurate and short ranged underwater.
