HIMARS

HIMARS, formally the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, is an American light multiple rocket launcher built by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control on a wheeled Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles truck frame, entering service with the 27th Field Artillery in June 2005. Unlike the older tracked M270 MLRS, HIMARS is wheeled and light enough to be carried aboard a C-130 Hercules as well as larger transports, and it fires a single pod of either six guided rockets or one ATACMS ballistic missile, giving light forces a rapidly deployable precision-strike capability the M270 could not offer. The system deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, but its most significant use began in June 2022 when the United States started supplying HIMARS to Ukraine following the Russian invasion; by late 2024 Ukraine had received 36 systems, which it used to strike Russian command posts and ammunition depots despite Russian jamming countermeasures.
