Khordad 15 (air defense system)

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The Khordad 15, also written 15th Khordad, is an Iranian surface-to-air missile system that the Iranian Defence Ministry presented in June 2019. According to the Tasnim news agency report carried by GlobalSecurity.org, the system pairs a phased array radar with independent missile launchers and is credited with detecting warplanes and drones out to about 150 kilometres and tracking up to six targets at once. Iranian officials said it fires Sayyad-3 missiles, and earlier Sayyad-2 missiles, against targets at altitudes up to 27 kilometres and ranges of roughly 7 to 75 kilometres. It is described as a tactical system that needs only two vehicles, one carrying the radar and command post and one carrying the launcher, with preparation time under five minutes. It is presented as a development of the earlier Talash air defence system with a new radar. The performance figures come from Iranian state statements and are not independently verified.
