Kunai

The kunai is a Japanese multipurpose tool thought to be derived from the masonry trowel, with a leaf shaped wrought iron blade of about 20 to 30 centimeters and a ringed handle for attaching rope. Originally a cheap, common implement used by peasants for gardening and by masonry workers, it was adopted by ninja alongside other repurposed farming tools because it was inexpensive, properly sized and easy to sharpen. Its blade was left deliberately soft and unsharpened along the edges, suited to smashing plaster and wood, digging and prying, with only the tip kept sharp, and the attached rope let it double as a grip wrap, an improvised spearhead when lashed to a stick, a means of concealment tied to the body, or a climbing aid. Contrary to its popular image, the kunai was primarily a stabbing and thrusting implement rather than a throwing weapon.
