LORA, short for Long Range Artillery, is an Israeli solid-fueled ballistic missile built for surface-to-surface strikes at short range. It can be fired from road vehicles or from ships, and the missiles are carried in packs of four, either on six-wheeled trucks or in launch containers aboard vessels. Each missile is about 5.2 meters long and 0.624 meters wide, weighs roughly 1,600 kilograms at launch and carries a single warhead of up to 600 kilograms, which can be high explosive or a load of submunitions. Guidance combines inertial navigation with satellite positioning, with television-based terminal guidance, and the maximum range is 280 kilometers. The weapon came out of work by the Israel Aerospace Industries MLM division together with IMI, was shown publicly in 2006 and 2007, and is believed to have entered Israeli service in 2007. Azerbaijan also fields it, and used it in the 2020 fighting over Nagorno-Karabakh, reportedly aimed at a bridge linking Armenia to the region with limited effect.
