The M1941 Johnson Light Machine Gun, also called the Johnson or the Johnny gun, was an American recoil operated light machine gun designed by Melvin Johnson in the late 1930s. It shared its operating principle and many parts with Johnson's M1941 rifle and M1947 auto carbine, fired the .30-06 Springfield cartridge from a curved single column magazine mounted on the left side of the receiver, and offered an adjustable rate of fire between about 450 and 700 rounds per minute depending on variant. It was produced from 1940 to 1945 and remained in limited service until 1961.
