The M24 Sniper Weapon System is the United States Army adaptation of the Remington Model 700 bolt action rifle, officially adopted as the standard sniper rifle of the Army in 1988. Built on the long action Remington 700 receiver and chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, it is termed a weapon system because the designation covers the rifle together with its telescopic sight and accessories rather than the rifle alone. It remained in Army sniper service from 1988 into the mid 2010s.
