The M250 is a gas-operated, belt-fed light machine gun made by SIG Sauer for the United States military, chambered in the new 6.8x51mm Common Cartridge, also known as .277 Fury. Developed under the Next Generation Squad Weapon program, it is intended to replace the long-serving M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and incorporates a proprietary recoil-mitigation system to control the heavier round, weighing roughly 13 to 14.5 pounds. The weapon entered service in 2022, began fielding to combat units in March 2024, and was formally type classified in May 2025.
