M40 rifle

The M40 is a bolt action sniper rifle used by the United States Marine Corps, built from a Remington Model 700 action and customized by Marine Corps armorers at Marine Corps Base Quantico. Introduced in 1966 and chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, it has been produced in four successive variants, the M40, M40A1, M40A3 and M40A5. The Marine Corps retired the M40 in 2018 in favor of the Mk 13 Mod 7, though foreign users including the Afghan National Army and the Philippine Marine Corps have fielded the M40A5, and Malaysia PASKAL special forces have also used the rifle.
