FAQs

Why was the Tokarev TT-33 replaced by the Makarov pistol?

It was criticized for its size and weight and had no external safety.

The TT was replaced by the Makarov pistol because of criticism over its size, weight, usability and lack of a safety. The Soviet Union ceased producing it in 1954, although derivatives continued to be made for many years in China and Yugoslavia.
