Mark 14 Torpedo

The Mark 14 was the United States Navy's standard submarine-launched anti-ship torpedo of the Second World War, designed in 1931 and built in roughly 13,000 units from 1942 to 1945. Its magnetic and contact exploders were badly flawed, causing widespread failures until the defects were corrected by late 1943, after which the weapon helped American submarines inflict heavy losses on Japanese naval and merchant shipping and remained in service for nearly 40 years.
