The MAS Modele 36, commonly called the MAS-36 rifle, is a French bolt action military rifle adopted in 1936 to replace the older Berthier and Lebel series of service rifles. Manufactured from late 1937 by the Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Etienne and chambered for the 7.5x54mm French cartridge, about 1.1 million were produced before 1952 and it remained in French service until 1967, with use by other countries continuing afterward.
