Meteor (missile)

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The Meteor is a European active radar guided beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile developed and manufactured by MBDA. It offers a multi-shot capability, meaning multiple launches against multiple targets, and can engage highly maneuverable targets such as jet aircraft and small targets such as unmanned aircraft and cruise missiles in a heavy electronic countermeasures environment, with a range in excess of 200 kilometres. A solid-fueled ramjet motor lets the missile cruise at more than Mach 4 and gives it thrust and mid-course acceleration, while a two-way data link lets the launch aircraft update or retarget the missile in flight. Meteor first entered service on the Swedish Air Force JAS 39 Gripen in April 2016 and reached initial operating capability in July 2016. It also equips the Dassault Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon of several European air forces and has been exported to various customers.
