MGM-51 Shillelagh

The MGM-51 Shillelagh was an American anti-tank guided missile designed to be launched from a conventional tank gun, built by Aeronutronic and Martin Marietta as the medium range component of a planned tiered anti-armor system for the 1960s and 1970s. Developed originally for the experimental MBT-70 tank, it saw its primary service on the M551 Sheridan light tank, beginning with limited production in 1964 and full production in 1966. Roughly 88,000 rounds were produced, though very few saw actual combat, and the system was eventually retired in 1996, superseded in most roles by the wire guided BGM-71 TOW missile introduced in 1970.
