The Mitsubishi F-2 is a multirole fighter derived from the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, specifically the F-16C Block 40, manufactured jointly by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Lockheed Martin for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force under a 60/40 manufacturing split between Japan and the United States. It first flew on October 7, 1995, with production starting in 1996 and the first aircraft entering service in 2000.
