MON-90

The MON-90 is a Soviet-designed directional anti-personnel mine, Claymore-shaped with a plastic body, roughly twice the size and depth of the similar MON-50. It carries 6.2 kilograms of RDX explosive and scatters about two thousand steel rod fragments across a 54-degree arc to a lethal range of ninety meters, and it is usually command-detonated by a manual trigger or booby-trap switch after being mounted above ground, often in a tree, to spread its fragments more widely. Waterproof and effective across a wide range of temperatures, its size also lets it damage unarmored vehicles and helicopters in addition to killing personnel.
