The MP-443 Grach is a Russian 9mm semi-automatic pistol, its name meaning rook, and its formal designation PYa standing for Pistolet Yarygina, or Yarygin Pistol. It was developed under designer Vladimir Alexandrovich Yarygin in response to Russian military trials that began in 1993, and entered service in 2003 as one of the standard sidearms across the Russian military and law enforcement alongside the Makarov, GSh-18 and SPS pistols. Mass production began in 2011.
