NRS-2

Small Arms And Sidearms

The NRS-2, from the Russian Nozh Razvedchika Strelyayushchy meaning Scout Firing Knife, is a Soviet gun hybrid that joins a knife blade to a built-in single-shot firing mechanism. The Tula Arms Plant made it for Soviet Spetsnaz troops in the 1980s, and it is still used as a personal weapon by Spetsnaz and special law enforcement groups. The mechanism fires the SP-4 cartridge, which was first designed for the PSS silent pistol. To load it, the user presses the opening lever, rotates the barrel out of the handle, inserts the cartridge, turns the barrel back into place and pulls the flip-up lever to cock the internal hammer. Before firing the safety must be set to fire. The knife can be thrown to pierce and cut, or fired at targets up to 25 metres away. A variant, the NR-2 survival knife, replaces the firing mechanism with survival equipment.
