The Panzerfaust 3 is a modern semi disposable recoilless anti tank weapon developed by the West German firm Dynamit Nobel between 1978 and 1985. It entered service with the Bundeswehr in 1987 and was formally adopted in 1992, replacing the older West German PzF 44 Light Lanze launcher and the Swedish made Carl Gustaf 84mm recoilless rifle as an infantry answer to contemporary Soviet armor. It is distinct from the earlier World War Two era Panzerfaust, a single shot disposable weapon of the same name family from which it takes its lineage but not its design.
