The Hecate II, named for the ancient Greek goddess Hecate, is the standard heavy sniper rifle and anti materiel rifle of the French Army, designed by Gilles Payen and manufactured by PGM Precision. A bolt action rifle firing the .50 BMG cartridge from a seven round detachable magazine, it has been in service since 1993 with an effective range of about 1,800 meters. Beyond France, it has been supplied to Brazil, Bulgaria, Egypt, Estonia, Indonesia, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
