The Pindad SS3 is a rifle from the Indonesian state arms maker Pindad, and the available sources describe it in two different ways. Military Factory presents a bullpup assault rifle dated 2011, chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO, with a gas-operated rotating bolt, STANAG-type magazines and a Picatinny rail, derived from the SS2 line that grew out of the licensed Belgian FN FNC, and says limited production began in 2012. Reports of its July 2016 launch from Antara and Shephard instead describe the SS3 as an upgrade of the SS2 using 7.62mm ammunition and built as a designated marksman rifle for assault teams that need high accuracy. This entry records both accounts until a source reconciles them.
