RT-2PM Topol

The RT-2PM Topol, known to NATO as the SS-25 Sickle, is a Soviet road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missile designed under Alexander Nadiradze at the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology and built at the Votkinsk Machine Building Plant, with development continued by Boris Lapygin after Nadiradze's death in 1988. It entered service in 1985, with the first operational missile regiment deployed that July, and carries a single 800 to 1,000 kiloton warhead to a range of 11,000 kilometers with an accuracy of about 900 meters. The three-stage, solid-fuel missile is 23.5 meters long and 2.17 meters in diameter, close in size to the American Minuteman ICBM, and is mounted on heavy MAZ-7310 or MAZ-7917 trucks with inertial guidance that allows it to launch autonomously from field positions or garage-based silos. Russia completed replacing all Topol units with the newer RS-24 Yars system in December 2023.
