The Ruger American Rifle is a family of budget-priced, polymer-stocked, bolt-action centerfire rifles made by Sturm, Ruger and Company for hunting and sport shooting, alongside a line of rimfire rifles with similar designs sold as the Ruger American Rimfire. The action uses a detachable rotary magazine, a stainless steel bolt with three locking lugs and a short 70 degree bolt throw, and a bedding system Ruger calls Power Bedding that locks the barrelled action into the stock. It was the first Ruger rifle to carry the adjustable Marksman trigger, which has an integrated safety blade and lets the shooter set the pull weight between about 3 and 5 pounds. The family spreads across Standard, Compact, Magnum, Predator, Ranch, Hunter and Go Wild models in many cartridges, and a second generation was introduced on Christmas Eve 2023.
